The Upload Advisor

Before your data enters the analysis pipeline, the Upload Advisor validates everything. It is the quality gate that ensures your analysis starts on solid foundations.

1

Format validation

Checks file format (CSV/Excel), encoding, and structural integrity.

2

Source auto-detection

Identifies the source (Derwent Innovation, Espacenet, etc.) from column headers and data patterns.

3

Column mapping

Maps source-specific column names to Stratensight's expected schema (Publication Number, Filing Date, Assignee...).

4

Quality assessment

Deduplication, missing date check, assignee normalization, preliminary Intelligence Grade™ estimate.

Common rejection reasons and fixes

The Upload Advisor tells you exactly what is wrong and how to fix it. Here are the most common issues:

Missing Publication Number columnBlocking

Fix: Re-export from your source and ensure Publication/Patent Number is included.

Missing Filing Date columnBlocking

Fix: Filing Date is critical for Momentum Index™. Re-export with date fields included.

Empty Assignee column (>50% missing)Warning

Fix: The Openness Score™ requires assignee data. Use a source with better metadata.

Unsupported file formatBlocking

Fix: Export as CSV (UTF-8) or Excel (.xlsx). PDF and Word formats are not supported.

Too few patents (<30)Warning

Fix: Broaden your search query or extend the time window to capture more filings.

After validation: automatic analysis

Once the Upload Advisor validates your file, the full analysis pipeline runs automatically. All four proprietary scores are calculated, Technology Clusters are generated, and the Decision Engine™ produces a verdict with confidence score.

Key difference from Explorer: Upload analysis produces a fixed, dated result. The same file uploaded again will always produce the same scores. This is the reproducible analysis mode for strategic decisions.

Key takeaways

  • The Upload Advisor validates format, detects source, maps columns, and checks quality.
  • Common rejections: missing Publication Number or Filing Date, unsupported format.
  • Source auto-detection recognizes Derwent, PatSnap, Questel, and other major providers.
  • After validation, the full analysis pipeline runs automatically with all four scores.

QUIZ DE VALIDATION

1. What does the Upload Advisor do?

2. Why might a file be rejected by the Upload Advisor?

3. How does source auto-detection work?

4. What happens during the quality checking process?

5. After the Upload Advisor validates your file, what is the next step?
